The set point of Charge Controller _Solar System

The battery voltage levels at which a charge controller performs switching function is called the charge controller set points.

There are four basic switching set points which are defined for most charge controllers. These are :

  1. voltage regulation ( VR set point )
  2. Array Reconnect voltage ( ARV set point )
  3. Low voltage load disconnect (LVD set point )
  4. Load Reconnect voltage (LRV set point)

Voltage Regulation ( VR set Point ) :

The Voltage regulation set point is defined as the maximum voltage that the change controller allows the battery to reach , limiting to overcharge of the battery. Once controller sense that the battery reaches the voltage regulation set point, the controller will either discontinue battery charging or begin to regulate (limit) the amount of current delivered to battery.

Array Reconnect Voltage (ARV set point ) :

when the battery voltage decreases to a predefined voltage , the array is again reconnected to the battery to resume charging , this voltage  at which the array is reconnected is defined as the arrat reconnect voltage (ARV) set point.

Low Voltage Load Disconnect ( LVD set point ) :
If battery voltage drops too low, due to prolonged bad weather for example , certain , non-essential loads can be disconnected from the battery to prevent further discharge. This can be done using a low voltage load disconnect ( LVD ) device connected between the battery and non essential loads.

Load Reconnect Voltage (LRV set point ) :
The battery voltage at which a charge controlled allows the load to be reconnect the battery is called the load connected to the battery is called the load reconnect voltage (LRV).
